Activities of the team/department that this role will operate in;
Lead and direct day to day activities of the highway maintenance operational team.
Effective management and control of the gang.
Apply an appropriate range of general maintenance skills.
Ensure receipt of pre-start paperwork and completion of 5 minute briefing.
Ensure receipt & understanding of works packs and method statements
Complete site risk assessment forms
Complete daily record sheets and associated site documents.
Support Supervisor objectives in delivery of required outputs.
Take lead responsibility for all health & safety matters on site.
Ensure organisation & management of fleet and plant operated by the gang.
Ensure completion of inspections of plant, machinery and vehicles.
Ensure waste is dealt with in the appropriate manner.
The post holder will be required to participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which will sometimes involve working unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays.
Formal qualifications required;
Winter Maintenance qualification
12 D Traffic Management
Valid CSCS card
Good organisation skills and assertive
Have a good knowledge of basic health & safety
Able to carry out basic safety, quality and environmental audits and risk assessments
Ability to deal effectively with peers, client representatives and the general public
Min 5 years highways maintenance experience.
Working knowledge and ability to take responsibility for traffic management.
Take personal responsibility for work produced, makes decisions and provides detailed solutions when escalating decisions upwards.
Understands customer’s needs, takes ownership and directs the team to achieve the desired outcome.
Develop and implement new ways of working to stretch
performance, improve efficiency and deliver value for money.
Champion and leads corporate initiatives that help to deliver change and continuous improvement.
